Welcome Gunnvaldr!

We've been kind of quiet of late... Perhaps you'd like to introduce yourself to us and let us know what your gaming background, etc., is...

Maybe some new blood is just what we need to get discussion moving again.

Oi strangers,
I'm getting this tingling sensation of being the new blood Laughing
Well I will start off bragging about my gaming background, although it seems to feel like I'm writing a resume as I write it.

I was introduce to pen n' paper Advance D&D back in '95 by my High School Art teacher. There began my odd, frustrating, comical, lacking yet addicting pen n' paper gaming sessions. But like my PC gaming addiction, it branch off to many other mechanical systems....

So here's a current list of games I always made effort to keep myself informed with if not be able to play them as much as I want or could Wink :

- AEG's Legend of the Five Rings 3rd Ed. (exploding d10 system)
- Green Ronin's A Song of Ice & Fire RPG (d6)
- Games-Workshop's Warhammer Fantasy Battle 7th ed.(soon 8th)
- Games-Workshop's Warhammer 40,000 5th ed.
- Mongoose Publishing's Babylon 5: A Call to Arms

Now I have played L5R since the 1st incarnation and have always enjoyed my gaming sessions with it. I never played the d20 version but I have collected most of the books just for the fluff and like. The one key aspect I like about AEG's version is that the game story is progressive, evolve and change to keep in line with their L5R CCG story arc. I just wish they made their books in PDF more faster. (I like PDF's btw, thinking of getting a Nook actually)

I have the old 'Game of Thrones RPG d20' as well as the current. The additional mechanics and whatnot in the newer incarnation makes the RPG more exciting to both read about and to try out. Better yet I recommend anyone to read the book series it is based on, A Song of Ice & Fire by George R. R. Martin. HBO just completed a pilot and (hopes up) they order for a season at least of the 1st book. If it's HBO it gives you an idea what kind of book it maybe.

I have played WFB since jeez....since 4th edition. I collected and read all the army books and supplements since then. I'm a bit sad when I mention this since the enthusiasm and scope of the game itslef jsut went to the War40k section. It basically stole the show since it's 3rd edition incarnation.

Now IMO I really am really pleased with upbeat effort in the Druchii, Lizardmen, Skaven Army books so far. My hopes is that in 8th edition the same feel and dedication will be given as war40k. After all WFB started it all for Games-Workshop. I am making efforts to accumulate PDF of edition 1 to 3 just to see how the game evolved.

I have played War40k since it's rebirth at 3rd edition. It really change the wargaming experience for me. I have also collected all the codexs and supplements as I had done with WFB. I even collect the Forgeworld Imperial Armory books. As with the fantasy I am collecting edition 1 &2 as well as the rogue trader supplements.

I have only played the Mongoose version of B5:ACtA's and mostly on the vassal web program. I love the TV series and universe and I even started to even collect models for the game. Mongoose drop the ball on the modeling department so I'm waiting to see what they are going to do with the license and go from there.

Now comes a list of games that I once in a awhile keep taps on but never got around in playing it fully:

- Privateer Press Warmachine 1st ed.
- Privateer Press Hordes 1st ed.
- Margaret Weis Production Ltd.'s Firefly RPG
- D&D 4th edition
- Framewrek's Cthulhutech
- Heavy Gear
- Catalyst Game Labs' Battletech
- Mongoose Publishing's Battlefield Evolution
- Mongoose Publishing's Starship Trooper
- Big Eyes Small Mouth

Waiting to get my hands on the new Warmachine and Horde rules. For Warmachine I perfer apocalypse level gaming. But I found the rules for Privateer ideal for small fast-paced and action-packed skirmish battles.
Sadly never got to collecting and playing since none of my friends want to invest in the game (war40k $ drainage).

D&D 4th edition? Hrm. I does seem like a different beast then 3.5 from what I recall reading the rules. which took me a damn long time to go through since any of the d20 systems I read about seems like a chore to go through. A lot more artwork and pretty pictures at least to look at. I kinda wish they revived Greyhawk world. Now albiet I only played a PC turn base game of the Greyhawk world but I remember I had fun and curious about the world and it's denizens.

The 1 Firefly season on tv was enjoyable for me. The movie Sernity was even moreso. It brought that Cowboy Bebop/ Space Cowboy giddiness inside me. Albiet Bebop was Noir as well, but hey, I was born in Alberta and I can claim to be a Canadian Redneck at heart Laughing. Really the RPG system just seem to be as fun and in theme like the TV series, which is why I keep track of the game.

Cthulhutech (still don't think I can say Cthulhu right yet) seems to be a very interesting universe. My kind of place, haha. So I made effort to get every book they release in both support Framewrek and to hopefully play a game in the future.

Heavy Gear. Hrm, I played a couple games of it. But I just lost interest in general due to the lack of diversity in the universe/game. I only really want to see if they progress and put in more information/playable faction. In particular the United Earth Force and the 'terran Lords' they mention in the past fluff.

Catalyst Game Labs' Battletech. Well I am impress with their new reincarnation and their progression in bringing the story line up to the Wizkid's Dark Age period. I'm just waiting until they reach that since for awhile i collected the clicking armies of Wizkids and some of their Mech design they made was at least aesthetically awsome.

Now for the Mongoose Publishing games, like A Call to Arms, their halt in making models and advancing the system basically made these two games hiatus for me. Which makes me sad since I even playtested the rules for them.

I love Anime. I still do. So naturally I have a foundness for the tristat d6 Big Eyes Small Mouth (BESM) gaming system. Played some short fun sessions with it too.

Haha now if I started a list and comments of the gaming system I played in the past it will take me awhile to write and recall. So I leave it at that and perhaps mention it on a later date.

Well here's hoping this at least gives you an idea of my Gaming experience and preference. Cheers and hopes to meeting you all!

- Palladium's Robotech. Short lived campaign but I had a blast while it lasted.

- Palladium's Rift's Series. Played in a team of Coalition operatives fighting the annoying vampire empire.

- White Wolf's Vampire etc. My dislike of vampires and werewolves continue (same GM who likes vampires) continues into this game. I played the only human in the group with a unhealthy (or health depending on perspective) habit of hunting down vampires and werewolves. This was just before Buffy and I found about Van Helsing. So i was a tad hurt when I found out that I wasn't original back then. Laughing

- Spellfire CCG. This was a fun system, really showed the scope of the D&D universe. too bad it didn't last long.

- Cyberpunk 2020. Haha I only participated in 1 campaign for this rpg and it was crazy. game kinda fell a part in the end since the GM seemed bent on making use all addicted and enslaved to his favored NPC to something in-game.

- Warhammer Fantasy RPG. Thinking of pickup some current edition by Fantasy Flight.
- Warhammer Inquisitor, continue on into the War40k RPG. I have their current rules come to think of it.
- Warhammer Warmaster
- Warhammer Armada
- Warhammer 40,000 Battlefleet Gothic
- Warhammer 40,000 Epic
- GorkaMorka
- Space Hulk

I never played Necromunda or Blood Bowl and never got around to bothering.

That's all I got for now.

LOL!!! Laughing

Wow! From that list, you'll fit right in here. Hopefully some of the others will chime in with their 2 cents, as we have some heavy 40K & Warmachine/Hordes players ... as well as some who have interests in many of the game systems you listed.

(I'll wait for some of them to respond, as it seems that whenever I respond in detail to something like this ... it kills the thread! Shocked ).

Now, I'm off to read the other posts on the board...

PS. I'm a big Greyhawk fan myself ... hence why my campaigns tend to be set in that world. Go figure! Smile

Glad to have you join us!

Interesting mix of games I have to admit, I'm actually familiar with all of them.
I do some distribution for Mongoose and ended up reading rules and collecting some of all their games, including ones they were supporting. I even got my intro to the industry helping the old AoG line with Babylon 5 Wars as I fell in love with that universe as well, and I agree it's ashame no one is picking up on the miniatures side of it anymore.

I found the Cthulutech background kind of fascinating and the rules to be very interesting - have you managed to find a game of it ever? What do you think of the system they're using?

Starship Troopers is a LOT of fun BTW - you might want to check a couple of the big online stores that sell off old product, or at conventions, since they dropped the line the minis have been selling off pretty cheap (saw plasma bugs at Gencon one year for $2).

If you're a fan of the 40K background have you taken a look at the Dark Heresy RPG? We've been playing it for a while and it's been very entertaining. I like the simple dice system (I guess that's from the Fantasy version) as it tends to make it very easy to keep the combats fast paced.

Looking forward to reading your posts around!

I can find some similarities to L5R d10 system. THe use of 10 dramatic points can give players the ability to encourage and more or less succede epic actions duringan episode. And what the players usually have to face, I don't find the nonrestricted use of these points OP when you compare the similarity of their use to Void Points.

I never found a cthuthutech game except on framwrek's own forums. But I haven't found a group there to participate due to time constraints.

haha if I seel plasmabugs still selling at $2 I be sure never to mention them to my bug buddy Very Happy

But I might as well look since I do want to pick up some grizziles and some skinny brutes.

Yes I have the current PDFs for Dark Heresy, I jsut forgot to list them Very Happy
A friend of my plans to run a campaign but we never got around to it yet. But I am looking forward to it and I do not doubt that you had a good time. The Fantasy version is very much similar in the simplistic dice system.

Considering I have been in combat heavy groups fast paced combat is a must I find, otherwise my short-attention spanned friends get derailed... or worse like brawling amoungst themselves. a mini combat within a combat Rolling Eyes
